Remedies For Ovarian Cysts Depending On The Type

Treatments for ovarian cysts vary according to the type of ovarian cyst you are suffering from. Some cysts, known as functional cysts such as the follicular cysts, corpus luteum cysts, and hemorrhagic cysts usually disappear on their own and require no other treatment except for ibuprofen or other over-the-counter pain medications. Sometimes, certain situations do require surgical removal. However, most often you will be prescribed a “watch and wait” approach and follow-up appointments with your doctor for further evaluation.

The other types of ovarian cysts fall into the pathological cysts category, which are considered to be a disease. A dermoid cyst is similar to cysts found on the skin and can contain anything from fat tissue to bone fragments. Although it does not usually cause any symptoms, if it becomes twisted, the dermoid cyst can become extremely painful while its blood supply becomes threatened. In this particular case, emergency medical must be sought immediately, because it will require urgent surgery.

Endometrial cysts are caused by endometriosis and are quite often easily controlled with the same drugs used for treating the endometriosis itself. However, endometrial cysts are more prone to growing large and bursting, sometimes causing internal bleeding – so, these types of cysts are treated common by surgical methods. They form when miniscule patches of endometrial tissue bleeds, sheds off, becomes transplanted, then grows large inside the ovaries.

Another common type of pathological ovarian cyst is an ovarian tumor. Cystadenomas are almost always benign, and unless the are large or causing complications, they are often left untreated. Unfortunately, they often do grow large and cause complications because of their size alone.

Cystadenomas also are neoplasmic, meaning that they are new growths of abnormal tissue. The treatment for these cystadenomas are more aggressive than other forms, especially if they are found to be cancerous after a collection of tissue from a surgically removed sample. Most ovarian tumors are benign, but careful evaluation is necessary in order to carry through with the proper treatment for the ovarian tumor.
